Fruit Distro Collective – JUST.LIFE.

Fruit Distro Collective is a project by long time friends Boris van der Hoff & Tristan Coco. Raised on boombap beats, schooled through Jazz composition and inspired by Afro & Psychedelic stuff. Pour some reel-to-reel tape sauce over it et voilá.

JUST.LIFE. is their second endeavour after debut LP ‘Some Kind Of Wisdom‘. The A-side draws inspiration from everyday life. Things that are often overlooked. Birds whistling. Just being somewhere spending time together. ‘This Stoic attitude towards life has always inspired us. Not just in the making of our music, but also in many conversations and get-togethers from the moment we met. Luckily we both have a natural tendency to not strive too much and to just enjoy what we are doing in the moment itself.’

Whereas the first four tracks open up a can of playful jazz the B-side explores more heavy conceptualizations. Parts 1 & 2 of NOVA revolve around the birth of a child that comes packed with beautiful unconditional love while also entering a world of new existential feelings. ‘This One’s For Jamie’ is the closer which was written and created after the passing of a friend. With life comes death. The cyclicity of it all.

‘All music is recorded in our own studio except for some parts by session musicians. We have always operated with a DIY mentality. Starting with sampling records from vinyl and cutting these in Garageband to now having a fully operational production & recording room (the cockpit) where we record (almost) everything from drums & percussion to Rhodes, bass & guitar.’

The FDC continues to have a good time whilst occasionally getting lost in the cable spaghetti and wondering why a signal is not getting through.

All tracks are mixed in Genesis Studio except for track B3 (This One’s For Jamie) which is mixed by Job André de la Porte in his own studio.
